Skotantrx ("we", "us", "our") operates the Pālan driver behaviour intelligence platform, available as a web application at skotantrx.com and as a mobile progressive web app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Summary: We collect only what's needed to analyse your driving trips and generate safety reports. Your data is stored in India. Raw video is deleted after 10 days. You can download or delete your data at any time.

What we do NOT collect
- We do not access your contacts, messages, call logs, or browsing history
- We do not use front-facing camera (only rear/environment camera)
- We do not record audio
- We do not track your location outside of active trip recording
2. How we use your data
- Trip analysis: Process dashcam video to detect road signs, lane markings, and driving events
- Report generation: Create DBA-1 driver behaviour assessment reports
- Trip history: Show your past trips and reports
- Safety insights: Identify patterns in driving behaviour over time
- Service improvement: Improve our AI detection models using anonymised, aggregated data (never individual trips)
3. Face and number plate blurring
All faces and vehicle number plates captured in dashcam footage are automatically blurred before any image is displayed in reports or on the platform. Raw video containing unblurred faces/plates is processed on our servers and deleted within 10 days.

Download before deletion: You may download your raw trip recordings at any time within 10 days of recording. After 10 days, raw recordings are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. If you need raw footage preserved for longer (e.g., for an insurance claim or legal matter), download it promptly or contact us to request a temporary extension.
5. Data storage and security
- Location: All user data is stored on servers located in India (Amazon Web Services, Hyderabad region)
- Encryption: All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+). Passwords are hashed using bcrypt
- Access control: Only authorised personnel can access user data, and only for service operation and support
- No cross-border transfer: Your personal data is not transferred outside India
6. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data only in these circumstances:
- Anonymised and aggregated data: We may use anonymised, aggregated driving pattern data (with no personal identifiers) for research, safety insights, or partnership purposes. This data cannot be traced back to any individual
- Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or government authority
- With your explicit consent: If you choose to share a report with an insurance provider, fleet manager, or other third party, we will do so only with your express consent
7. Your rights (Data Principal rights under DPDPA)
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to access: View and download all data we hold about you
- Right to correction: Update or correct your personal information
- Right to erasure: Delete your account and all associated data ("Delete my account" in settings)
- Right to withdraw consent: Revoke consent for data collection at any time (this may limit service functionality)
- Right to grievance redressal: File a complaint with our Grievance Officer or the Data Protection Board of India
- Right to nominate: Nominate another person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity

8. Children's data
Pālan is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from persons under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Cookies and local storage
We use browser local storage (not cookies) to keep you signed in and remember your preferences (vehicle garage, settings). This data stays on your device and is not sent to our servers. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or analytics scripts.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
